Green Smoothies?

You've probably heard about green smoothies, but maybe don't know much about them..or maybe you do and drink them all the time.
If you haven't, let me tell you what I know about them :)
My husband refuses to even try a green smoothie just because they are green and because he knows that green color comes from a vegetable.

However, despite what my husband thinks, green smoothies are actually good! I think a lot of people who prefer eating strictly organic food, or want to live on a "raw" diet drink green smoothies. I drink them for breakfast just because they're good for you. I've actually found that my body craves them now, and I've only been drinking them for a couple weeks.
When I first got interested in drinking green smoothies I did some research online, while looking for some good recipes. I found a lot of information on this website. Here they talk about why green smoothies are good for you. I definitely recommend reading it! They also have some recipes, its a good website.

Green Smoothies are typically made with green leafy veggies like spinach, kale, red leaf lettuce, etc and fruit. When you make a green smoothie, you want to usually have two servings of veggies to one serving of fruit. BUT when you first start drinking them I suggest starting w/ an even amount of fruit and veggies in case you aren't too fond of the green taste right away (or even a little more fruit than veg). Once you've drank them for a bit you'll get used to the green taste, and if you're like me, you might even start to like it! You can also add oils or protein powder to these shakes. Here are a couple of my fave recipes that i've tried so far:

This one was recommended to me from a friend from work and it really is good:

ingredients:
2 cups of Kale (spinach works too)
1/2 cup of Blueberries
1/2 cup of Strawberry halves
1 TBSP Flax Oil
1 TBSP Coconut Oil
1 scoop of Chocolate Protein Powder (or half of whatever it recommends for 1 serving)
1/2 cup or less of ice
Water, Almond Milk or Soy milk for your base (whichever you prefer, I just do water for lower calories)

Throw it all in your blender until the green is as chopped up as possible.

This is not one I suggest as your first green smoothie as there is lots of green. But I LOVE this one. Once you've had a couple make this one, and you'll want to make a bigger batch. (I use a magic bullet so I'm not tempted.. ;)

A super easy and DELICIOUS green smoothie that I just put together because it was what I had at my house:

ingredients:
2 cups of Spinach
1 small Peach
The juice of 1 small Orange

Throw it all into a blender until completely blended. This a great beginner smoothie. If you add a little more spinach and half a banana that is good as well.

Easy right? There are so many things you can do with green smoothies. It makes an excellent breakfast since you can switch it up so easily, you don't get sick of them. If you just google green smoothies you find TONS of recipes. If you think you don't have time to make these every morning, or you don't want to keep tons of veggies in your fridge all the time, I found THIS cool idea on pintrest.

Tell us what your favorite Green Smoothie recipes is!
